RICHMOND, IN — A Richmond man has been accused of dealing both fentanyl and meth.
The two dealing charges, both Level 2 felonies carrying up to 30 years in prison, were filed on Tuesday, Aug. 4, against 38-year-old Cody Tyler Vanwinkle.
He is also charged with possession of cocaine and possession of paraphernalia.
A Richmond police officer reported he stopped a Ford Ranger driven by Vanwinkle for a traffic offense near Fifth and G streets on the evening of Aug. 3.
In an affidavit, the officer wrote that he had received information “indicating Cody was involved in the distribution of illegal narcotics” and was aware the Richmond man had repeatedly traveled to Trotwood, Ohio, a Dayton suburb frequently linked to drug trafficking.
After a police K-9 indicated there were narcotics in the Ford Ranger, officers searched both Vanwinkle and his pickup truck and reported finding bags containing 14.9 grams of meth and 25 grams of fentanyl in his possession, along with crack cocaine recovered from the truck’s driver’s seat.
The Richmond man reportedly acknowledged he had been dealing drugs for “a year.” He was being held in the Wayne County Jail under an $80,000 bond.
According to court records, Vanwinkle has been convicted of crimes including burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of meth, theft and trespassing.
