RICHMOND, IN — A Richmond man was arrested stemming from a fatal vehicle accident over the weekend.
According to a news release from the Richmond Police Department, 27-year-old Billy Goodwin was driving a blue Honda Civic on Saturday evening when it crashed near Sim Hodgin Parkway and Bridge Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle with significant damage and 48-year-old Richmond man Christopher Kennedy trapped inside the vehicle.
Kennedy, the department said in the release, was a passenger and was extricated from the vehicle by the Richmond Fire Department. He was taken to Reid Health and died from his injuries.
Officers say they determined that Goodwin, who is alleged to be the driver of the vehicle, fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.
According to the release, he was preliminarily charged with false informing and resisting law enforcement, both Class A misdemeanors, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, a Level 5 felony. He has yet to be formally charged.
The crash remains under investigation, and RPD asks anyone with information to call 765-983-7247.
