Purdue women's basketball vs Oregon Big Ten Tournament live updates

INDIANAPOLIS ― Purdue women’s basketball struggled to claw its way back from a 23-point deficit in the first half.

Purdue (14-16) struggled to match up with forwards Ehis Etute, Mia Jacobs and guard Katie Fiso. Fiso scored 20 points and four assists while Etute scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Mia Jacobs added 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Oregon (20-11) who shot 41%.

Purdue freshman Hila Karsh scored 11 points along with guard Tara Daye who finished with 11 points.

Sophomore Lana McCarthy scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

7:36: Four players for Purdue with four fouls: Kiki Smith, Tara Daye, Lana McCarthy and Kendall Puryear.

Third quarter

End of third: Oregon 64, Purdue 49. McCarthy leads Purdue with 14 points and seven rebounds. Karsh off the bench has eight points. Daye has nine points, four rebounds but has four fouls. Puryear has four fouls.

1:27: Freshman Hila Karsh off the bench hits her second 3-pointer late in the third. Purdue clawing back. Oregon 62, Purdue 49.

4:32: Foul trouble for Purdue. Puryear picks up her fourth foul attempting to set a screen for Daye. McCarthy has three. Short momentum slows for the Boilermakers with Oregon ball off the media timeout. Oregon 56, Purdue 39.

4:50: McCarthy another bucket and Purdue has trimmed the deficit past 20. Indiana came back from down 20. Can Purdue do the same thing? Oregon calls timeout. Oregon 56, Purdue 39.

5:55: McCarthy playing with more activity in the paint. McCarthy now has 12 points with eight rebounds but is playing with three fouls. Oregon has continued to attack the first layer Purdue’s defense with relative ease. Oregon 54, Purdue 34.

Halftime: Oregon 47, Purdue 24. Ehis Etute 12 points, eight rebounds. Mia Jacobs 11 points, six rebounds. Oregon outrebounded Purdue 24-17. Nya Smith held to two points in the first half. The Boilermakers shot 2 for 14 from 3-point range. Daye leads with nine points while McCarthy has six points and six rebounds. Positive note for Purdue: just three turnovers in the first half. Yet, the Boilermakers are down more in the first half of its second matchup by 23 points than its first half margin of 11 in game one.

3:46: Slipping away from Purdue. Lacking any ability to stop the dribble penetration to the left side by Fiso and role player guard Astera Tuhina. Oregon 36, Purdue 21.

5:21: Oregon outrebounding Purdue 20-12. Earlier contact, better inside position and the Ducks now shooting free throws for the rest of the period after a foul by Avery Gordon. Oregon 32, Purdue 20.

7:23: Purdue calls its first timeout. Ehis Etute has 12 points and eight rebounds. On track for outrageous numbers unless Puryear, McCarthy or Gordon can match her aggression. The post position turning and scoring is opening the floor for Oregon’s shooters. Sophia Bell and Mia Jacobs have each connected 3-pointers. Oregon 28, Purdue 18.
