It has been a very concerning offseason for Notre Dame men’s basketball and it got worse on Monday morning.
The rumors turned out to be true, guard Cole Certa has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal and leave the Irish. The Illinois native entered the program in 2024 as a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite, and contributed right away. Playing in 18 games, he’d score 2.5-points-per-game showing plenty of promise.
Certa would flash even more this past season, boosting his scoring average more than 10-points, while putting up multiple 30-point efforts. It’s a huge loss for the program, as the development over the course of his two-years with the Irish was finally paying off this year.
He’ll leave for another program as an essentially finished product, something that you absolutely hate to see. Certa’s makes it six total transfers this cycle leaving Notre Dame, putting plenty of uncertainty into what head coach Michael Shrewsberry is trying to accomplish.
