Notre Dame and Miami renew their rivalry as they meet in a Week 1 clash on Sunday night at Hard Rock Stadium, and there are high expectations for both programs.
Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish advanced to the national title game last season after an exciting run through the College Football Playoff, and there is no reason to believe ND can’t get back to the 12-team field because there is high-caliber talent at all levels on both sides of the ball.
We will see the debut of CJ Carr as the Irish starting quarterback, and he’ll have plenty of playmakers surrounding him to make his job much easier. Meanwhile, this will be our first look at Carson Beck in a Hurricanes uniform, and we’ll see how he fares in his first action since suffering an injury in last year’s SEC title game with Georgia, where he went 24-3 as a starter.
Freeman helped the Irish break through last year, while Mario Cristobal is trying to do the same and claim Miami’s first ACC crown and a CFP berth.Carr was a high-star recruit for a reason, but expect a healthy dose of Jeremiyah Love and Co. as the Irish lean on their ground game to set up deep shots down the field against a retooled Hurricanes secondary.

Notre Dame, 26-23: I have gone back and forth on this game throughout the entire offseason. I believe Mario Cristobal can get the ‘Canes over the hump, but this is an Irish team still stingy from its loss in the natty. CJ Carr won’t be spectacular, but he’ll play clean enough, and the Irish will pop a big play in the fourth quarter before holding off the ‘Canes to steal a win in South Beach.
