Notre Dame football sees a specialist enter the transfer portal

It wasn’t the best season for Notre Dame football with its place kickers, and it looks like one of them will enter the transfer portal and try to start fresh with a new team.

Marcello Diomede, a junior from Illinois, decided that his Irish career was over, and will move on with a different program. During his three seasons with the team, he missed his only field goal attempt, although it was a long one at 54-yards.

Diomede made two-of-three point afters attempts this season, but he never showed the consistency to take over the job. He’ll leave with two seasons of eligibility left as a graduate transfer.

In his farewell, Diomede thanked head coach Marcus Freeman and special teams coach Marty Biagi among others. He said “it has been the honor of a lifetime to be a Notre Dame man.” It’s the second move that Notre Dame has had this offseason within the special teams room, as Australian punter Jasper Scaife committed on Christmas Day.

We wish Marcello the best, as he’ll look to get on the field at his next football home.
