Muncie woman charged with robbery in alleged bid to steal detergent

ANDERSON, IN — A Muncie woman has been charged with robbery over an alleged bid to steal detergent from a store in Anderson.

The robbery count against 39-year-old Ashley Monique Jackson, filed April 29 in Madison Circuit Court 5, is a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison.

According to court documents, an employee at the Dollar General Store at 415 S. Scatterfield Road on April 16 confronted Jackson in the store’s parking lot after the Muncie woman allegedly tried to shoplift several large containers of detergent.

The employee told Anderson police she was able to remove three jugs of Tide detergent and two jugs of Gain detergent from Jackson’s Jeep Renegade.

However, she said Jackson “ripped” a sixth jug of detergent from her hands and then fled from the parking lot in her SUV.

The employee said the Muncie woman had “squeezed her hand hard enough that she did let go of (the jug),” an Anderson police officer wrote.

In addition to the robbery charge, Jackson was charged with three counts of theft, a Level 6 felony with a maximum 30-month sentence.

Two of those counts stem from alleged shoplifting at the Marshall’s store at 4228 S. Scatterfield Road on April 14 and 16.

In one of those cases, Jackson is accused of stealing luggage, a purse and several articles of clothing. Surveillance video showed her wearing a shirt that read “Muncie,” the affidavit said.

After her arrest on April 28, Jackson reportedly told an Anderson police officer she had no memory of visiting the stores on April 14 or 16.

She was being held without bond because of alleged probation violations in a Hamilton County case.

At the time of her latest arrest, Jackson already faced a total of seven charges — two counts of theft, four counts of driving while suspended, and residential entry — in five cases pending in Delaware County courts.

According to court records, the Muncie woman has been convicted of crimes including theft (at least six times), resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness, criminal conversion and driving while suspended.
