SOUTH BEND — Downtown South Bend Inc. will offer free yoga, Zumba and more every Saturday through Aug. 30. The program is held at the Gridiron, 122 S. Michigan St. The drop-in classes are free and open to all ages and skill levels. Participants are encouraged to bring a small donation of canned goods, non-perishables or personal items for the Food Bank each week. Participants should dress in appropriate clothing and footwear, bring a mat and adequate fluids, and will be required to sign a waiver for the season. Free parking is available on the street and in the Leighton Parking Garage; enter off Jefferson Boulevard. This Saturday’s class, July 12, includes 8 a.m. Yoga; 9 a.m. Zumba; 10 a.m. Burn Boot Camp. SOUTH BEND — Unity Gardens Inc. is offering free Yoga in the Garden at 6 p.m. July 15. Wear comfortable clothes, and bring a yoga mat and a towel to put underneath the mat. Unity Gardens is located at 3701 Prast Blvd.

SOUTH BEND — Join Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Veteran Affairs, Goshen City Parks, Elkhart City Parks, Elkhart County Health Department and the Elkhart County Parks for Military Veteran Stand Down, a resource fair for veterans and their families. This event will allow veterans to connect with VA resources, talk with a county veteran service officer and learn more about what the community has to offer. There will also be fun activities for kids and families. Veterans are invited to this free event held at Century Center, 120 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 12. No registration is required, but veterans are asked to bring all of the following to receive services: DD214, Military ID and VA Health Care Card.
SOUTH BEND — Unity Gardens will hold a Lunch N’ Learn at noon July 12. Learn ways to take produce from farm to fork and why it’s good for you with Marin Easton, registered dietitian. This Saturday, learn about Power Greens and the featured recipe will be sauteed kale, chard and beet greens, with garlic, lemon and herbs.
SOUTH BEND — Aging Connections will present “Helping Families When the Diagnosis is Dementia” from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. July 15 in the Beutter-Kernan Hall, Community Learning Center, St. Joseph County Public Library, 305 S. Michigan St. When a dementia diagnosis is received, it can be overwhelming. Learn how to face this challenge and make new decisions regarding care options. Register at sjcpl.libnet.info/events.
BUCHANAN — Walk Days are back at the Buchanan Area Senior Center. On July 18, take a stroll along the Niles River Walk. Afterward, the group will have lunch at Downtown Niles Cafe. Lunch is the patron’s responsibility. Registration is required by calling the BASC at 269-695-7119. Let the BASC know if you will be meeting at the BASC at 9 a.m. to ride in the van, following the van or meeting at the Niles Amphitheater at 9:20 a.m.
SUPPORT GROUPS
SOUTH BEND — The New Hope Support Group will meet the third Tuesday of each month from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Road. This interdenominational group is for divorced, widows, widowers and anyone suffering grief due to the loss of a loved one. The group meets in a large area of the basement level of the church. SOUTH BEND — Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana will offer the free class “Communication Changes” from 10 to 11 a.m. July 14 in the Care Partner Academy. Patty Piechocki, director of the Institute for Excellence in Memory Care, will lead this live interactive web session. Participants can connect through their computer. WARSAW — Bowen Health is offering a series of free online master classes covering a wide range of health topics designed for adults interested in improving their lives. The live weekly series covers topics related to mental and physical well-being, including setting boundaries, exercise and movement, relaxation techniques, cultivating happiness and more. “Vaping: Is it Really the Safer Alternative?” will be presented by Patricia Lozano, assistant director of addiction recovery services at Bowen Health, from 11 a.m. to noon July 15. Explore the mechanisms of vaping, highlighting the potential health risks and evaluating claims of safety in vaping.
“Screen Time: Reset Your Brain” will be presented by Bil Easley, program manager, at Bowen Health, from 2 to 3 p.m. July 16. Learn how screen time affects your mental and physical health.
