After the Indiana Senate voted to reject the redistricting plan on Thursday, Dec. 11, Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith took to X, formerly Twitter, to take aim at the Republicans who voted against the redistricting, saying they opted for “disloyalty” and “dishonor.”
“Today, the Indiana Senate faced a simple choice: Stand and fight a Marxist movement… or choose dishonor,” Beckwith wrote. “They chose dishonor.”
In his lengthy 1,578 character post, he praises President Donald Trump heavily, saying that he “fought harder for Hoosier values… and American values… than any president in my lifetime.”
Beckwith further explains why he feels the Republicans who voted against the redistricting betrayed Trump.
“[Trump] was vilified. Smeared. Dragged through endless lawfare. His family and his business were targeted. His life was threatened—and he was nearly assassinated. All for what? So that Indiana politicians could grow timid. So that Indiana political careerists could retreat. So that, last night, the Indiana Senate could effectively tell a president who fought for us: “Go to hell.”
He included photos of the 21 Republicans senators who broke ranks and voted against the redistricting.
“Those who choose dishonor will still get the fight, Beckwith wrote at the end of his post, just before the photos. “The war didn’t start today. But today made it unmistakably clear who’s willing to stand… and who isn’t.”
Tensions have been high throughout the entire process. Lawmakers who were for, against and undecided leading up to the vote received death threats, including bomb threats, swatting, and other intimidation incidents.
