MUNCIE, IN — A program offering a $5,000 incentive to newcomers who settle in Delaware County has drawn its first new resident.
To qualify for the incentive, participants must be relocating from out of state, have an individual income of at least $50,000 and “bring their remote job with them,” according to a release Mayor Dan Ridenour’s administration issued in March.
Ridenour and the Delaware County commissioners this year entered into an interlocal agreement to expand the boundaries of a “Make My Move” program the city launched in 2021.
The agreement allows all addresses with a “Muncie” designation — both inside and outside the city limits — to be eligible.
Muncie and Delaware County officials are offering the incentive to newcomers who settle in unincorporated areas of the county with Muncie addresses.
The Delaware County Redevelopment Commission agreed to finance the $5,000 incentive for qualifying individuals.
“We are thrilled to see this partnership working exactly as intended,” Ridenour said in a release issued Wednesday, Aug. 20. “By joining forces with Delaware County, we are able to showcase Muncie and the entire region as a place where people want to live, work, and grow.
“The arrival of our first mover through this expanded program is an exciting milestone, and we look forward to welcoming many more.”
In the release, the commissioners — Stephen Brand, Shannon Henry and Sherry Riggin — said they are “proud to welcome our first new resident through this program and are eager to see the positive impact future participants will bring.”
