As if the Indiana Fever’s weekend wasn’t exciting enough already …
After the Sophie Cunningham-DiJonai Carrington dust-up, Caitlin Clark’s technical/non-technical and a tough 90-86 victory over the Chicago Sky, something caught the eye of Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith.
Fever coach Stephanie White discussed the first-quarter foul Carrington committed against Cunningham, resulting in Carrington’s ejection.
“One of the things about (Carrington) is that she’s gonna play her butt off, man. She’s going to compete and nobody’s gonna go walking in for a layup,” White said. “I don’t oppose the hard foul, but I also don’t think that she intentionally went for the neck.”
That comment is grounds for dismissal, as far as Beckwith is concerned. Here’s what he said in a social media post Sunday morning:
“Ok… The @IndianaFever need to let Stephanie White go. No solid coach would ever take the side of the opposing team’s player who committed a flagrant foul on one of your own players. Terrible coaching!
“The Fever need to defend their players.”

“Absolutely, I mean, that’s like what I did last year, but I made my layup,” Cunningham said postgame, referring to her fight with now-Sky guard Jacy Sheldon while Sheldon was on the Connecticut Sun last year that resulted in a Flagrant 2 and ejection for Cunningham.
“And yeah, it’s intentional,” she continued. “But I mean, (Carrington) wasn’t even on (the Sun last year), she has no reason to be doing any of that. So, good way to get her kicked out, and that’s what they did. So, it’s fine.”
