Steichen reveals Colts' plan at quarterback for first preseason game

The Indianapolis Colts open up their preseason on Thursday in New England and head coach Shane Steichen shared what the plan will be at quarterback.

As expected, Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson will see the majority of — if not all — the quarterback reps in that game. Easton Stick is the fourth quarterback on the roster, but it remains to be seen what opportunities will come his way.

No surprise, but Daniel Jones will not play, but he will take part in the joint practice on Tuesday.

Up to this point in training camp, Richardson and Leonard have been splitting the practice reps with the second-team offense. Steichen did not say who will start on Thursday.

Richardson and Leonard are competing for the backup quarterback role behind Jones. Consistency is the biggest thing that Steichen is looking for.

“Every day those guys are battling,” Steichen said. “Someone’s got to win the job and go take it. And those guys are back-and-forth and we’ll continue to work that through camp and see where it goes.”

Steichen will provide an update on Monday as to whether or not any starters will play in New England.
