The sectional stage of the Indiana high school boys volleyball season ended on Saturday, which means the postseason field has been narrowed to 16 teams.
Here is the recap of what went down in the sectional finals and the matchups for the first round of regionals, which will be held at four locations on Saturday, May 23.
Zionsville (22-12)
The Eagles topped Lafayette Jeff and Lebanon before they faced McCutcheon in the sectional finals. They dropped the first set to the Mavericks before they swept the final three frames in a 3-1 win (22-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-18).
Homestead (23-9)
The Spartans lost their last two regular season matches to Lake Central and Roncalli but turned things around in sectional play. They swept Fort Wayne North Side before they beat New Haven in four sets. They earned a sweep (25-20, 25-16, 25-22) over Fort Wayne South Side in the sectional finals.
Carroll (27-6)
The Chargers took down DeKalb and Woodlan in straight sets before they topped Leo in a 3-2 effort. In the sectional finals, they traded the first four sets with Columbia City but closed out the match in the fifth frame (17-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 15-7).
Carmel (26-6)
The Greyhounds knocked off sectional host Hamilton Southeastern, 3-1, in the opening round before they did the same to Fishers to clinch a spot in the finals. They swept Westfield (27-25, 25-19, 25-21) to advance to regionals.
Roncalli (29-3)
The Royals started their postseason quest by sweeping Lutheran and Franklin. That dominance continued with a huge 3-0 win over Perry Meridian (25-20, 25-20, 25-19). Roncalli stretched its unbeaten streak to eight games, a stretch where the Royals dropped just one set.
Evansville Memorial (17-5)
The Tigers beat Terre Haute South and Martinsville before they met Bloomington North in the sectional finals. They secured the first two sets before the Cougars countered with a win in the third set. The Tigers closed out the match in set four (25-23, 25-23, 12-25, 25-22). Evansville Memorial have won eight matches in a row.
Franklin (19-12)
The Grizzly Cubs swept Shelbyville and Whiteland in the first two rounds of sectionals. They took down Greenwood (25-16, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18) in the final round.
Jeffersonville (23-9)
The Red Devils have won six of their last seven matches and have won four matchups in a row. They swept Silver Creek and Madison before Shawe Memorial felt that same wrath in the finals.
Lake Central (23-2)
The Indians swept Hammond Central, Illiana Christian and Munster. They earned a dominant win (25-17, 25-15, 25-14) in the sectional finals.
Penn (19-12)
The Kingsman defeated South Bend Riley and Northridge in four sets before they swept Elkhart in three sets (25-15, 25-22, 25-20).
Kouts (15-10)
After a loss to Lake Central in the regular season finale, Kouts swept Morgan Township and Washington Township in sectional competition. Kouts engaged in a five-set war with South Central in the final stage. The Mustangs lost the first set before they secured set two and three. They dropped set four but clinched set five for a 3-2 win (19-25, 25-23, 28-26, 22-25, 15-11).
Andrean (29-3)
After sectionals, the Fighting 59ers won 18 of their last 19 matches. They beat DeMotte Christian and Boone Grove before meeting Valparaiso in the finals. They topped the Vikings, 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19).
Cathedral (19-12)
The Fighting Irish opened their postseason with back-to-back sweeps over Irvington Preparatory Academy and New Castle. They went on to take down Warren Central with a 3-1 win (25-15, 25-19, 24-26, 25-18).
North Central (19-7)
The Panthers beat Brebeuf Jesuit in the opening round before they swept Park Tudor in the next round. They then swept Bishop Chatard (27-25, 26-24, 27-25).
Covenant Christian (22-3)
The Warriors have won 13 of the last 14 matches. They topped Center Grove in five sets before they swept Brownsburg. They also beat Avon in three sets (25-21, 25-15, 25-22) in the finals.
Shortridge (20-8)
The Blue Devils beat Tech, Herron and Christel House before they were matched up against Providence Cristo Rey. They topped the Wolves in straight sets (25-10, 25-20, 25-15).
