The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are facing the No. 6 seed Syracuse Orange for a spot in the 2026 NCAA men’s lacrosse championship game, with the Final 4 set to be played later today.
Notre Dame, the No. 2 seed, got a first-round bye and then beat Jacksonville 18-5 and Johns Hopkins 15-9 to get to the last weekend of the season. Syracuse also had a bye before beating Yale 16-15 and No. 3 North Carolina 13-11.
Notre Dame defenseman Shawn Lyght was named 2026 national defensive player of the year, but the excellence has been ongoing for the past few seasons. The Irish won back-to-back title in 2023 and 2024, and look to return to the podium on Monday.
The Fighting Irish won the regular-season match against Syracuse 16-11, giving plenty of hope that they’ll be playing for another title.
