ESPN’s Matt Miller highlighted a non-first-round NFL draft prospect that could fill a big need for the Indianapolis Colts.
In a recent article from ESPN, Stephen Holder listed edge rusher, linebacker, and wide receiver as the Colts’ top three needs. Miller then selected Missouri linebacker Josiah Trotter as a player outside of Round 1 who could fill one of those needs.
“He has risen up boards since declaring for the draft has given more time to review his tape,” Miller wrote. “Trotter is a big-time hitter between the tackles and has great closing speed when working downhill. He could be a dream fit in coordinator Lou Anarumo’s scheme.”
Josiah Trotter would help fill a big need at linebacker for the Colts
Trotter has played 1,144 defensive snaps over the last two seasons. This past year, with Missouri, Trotter was one of PFF’s highest graded run defenders at the linebacker position.
He also logged 14 pressures and three sacks as a blitzer. In coverage, he allowed 27 completions on 32 targets at 8.8 yards per catch. Trotter did not log any ball production.
Trotter is the son of former Eagles’ All-Pro linebacker Jeremiah Trotter.
Even with the addition of Akeem Davis-Gaither, linebacker remains a massive need for the Colts. Next up on the depth chart are Austin Ajiake and Jaylon Carlies.
This is a position where an early round pick should be used and one that GM Chris Ballard should be looking to double-dip at. The need is that big.
