WEST LAFAYETTE — In 2019, West Lafayette’s Ellie Tate broke an 800-meter sectional record that stood for 23 years.
On Tuesday, May 19 at Betty Bolyard Track, Faith Christian junior Ashley Caplinger obliterated the seven-year-old mark, winning the event at the Harrison Sectional in 2:14.84.
While the moment belonged to Caplinger, the rest of the night belonged to the host Harrison Raiders.
Piloted by eight individual event victories, Harrison ran away from the field, outscoring runner-up West Lafayette 208-117 to win its sixth consecutive sectional championship.
Gia Stokes, Sabrina Willis and Tenley Blankenship all added an individual sectional win to their 400 relay victory, teaming with Chloe Verhey for Harrison’s lone relay blue ribbon.
Caplinger teamed with Jiaya Miao, Kimberly Caplinger and Allison Caplinger to close the meet winning the 1,600 relay and West Lafayette’s Cameron Schweigert also was a double winner, claiming both hurdles races.
All sectional qualifiers advance to the Lafayette Jeff regional this upcoming Tuesday, May 26.
