SOUTH BEND — South Bend schools invites district families to kick off the new school year at its annual free Back to School Bash on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Held in partnership with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the event is free and open to SBCSC students and families, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Clay High School, 19131 Darden Road.
According to a press release from the district, students can receive free backpacks filled with school supplies, vaccinations provided by the St. Joseph County Department of Health and haircuts from Great Clips. And, through SBCSC’s partnership with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, 400 pairs of new shoes will also be available to students on a first-come, first-served basis.
More than 30 community organizations and vendors will participate in the event, SBCSC says, providing information about additional programs, services and resources in South Bend.
Representatives from colleges, universities and career fields will also be in attendance to discuss education and career opportunities, and INvestEd will assist families with questions about scholarships, financial aid, choosing a major and planning for college and careers.
“Our goal is to remove some of the barriers our families may be facing and make sure students have a great and memorable first day of school,” Taylor Williams, SBCSC’s supervisor of student services, said in the press release. “Back-to-school expenses can add up quickly for families. We want them to know that we’re here to support the whole family and help make that transition into the new school year a little easier.”
