Fourth body recovered from a central Indiana waterway in 2 weeks

Indianapolis authorities are investigating after a body was recovered from Pleasant Run Creek on June 8.

At about 4:15 p.m., crews found a person’s remains in Pleasant Run Creek near the Indianapolis Fire Department station in the 600 block of East Pleasant Run Parkway North Drive. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene as well, a spokesperson said.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office is investigating the cause and manner of death. The person’s identity has not yet been released.

The discovery marks the fourth time a body has been recovered from a waterway in Marion and Hamilton Counties in the last two weeks.

On May 26, rescue divers found Leo Victor Declay, 61, in the White River near the 500 block of North White River Parkway West Drive. Later on the same day, Lawrence Police got a report from a kayaker who spotted a body in Fall Creek, near the Upper Fall Creek Loop Trail. The deceased was identified as Andrew “Andy” W. Nevers, 55. The cause and manner of death for both men remains pending.

On May 27, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Noblesville Fire Department found a man dead in the White River near the 11000 block of East 206th Street in Noblesville. He was identified as James Peoples, 35.
