RICHMOND, IN — A former Wayne County resident has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a meth-related conviction.
John B. Carico Sr., 59 — now listed at an address in Coolidge, Arizona — was charged in Wayne Superior Court 2 in April 2022 with dealing in meth, a Level 2 felony carrying up to 30 years in prison.
However, the former Cambridge City man later struck a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to possession of meth, a Level 3 felony with a maximum 16-year sentence.
He recently received the nine-year sentence from Judge Gregory Horn.
According to an affidavit, Carico was arrested in a traffic stop on April 15, 2022, after Wayne County sheriff’s deputies reported receiving information he was involved in “transporting and distributing large amounts of illegal narcotics.”
Richmond police searched his vehicle and found 30.77 grams of meth, and also determined Carico had more than $7,500 in cash in his pants pocket.
Judge Horn ruled the nine-year sentence Carico received would be served after he completes a three-year sentence he received for another possession-of-meth conviction.
In 2023, the former Wayne County resident was convicted of possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of meth in U.S District Court in London, Kentucky.
Carico was reportedly sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for that conviction, but online records reflect he is “not in (federal Bureau of Prisons) custody.”
In Indiana state courts, he has also been convicted of crimes including criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, forgery and possession of marijuana.
