The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will have some national representation at the FIBA Women’s World Cup.
Jackie Young, one of the most decorated players in Notre Dame women’s basketball history was added to Team USA which brings another milestone to her illustrious career.
Young starred at Notre Dame from 2016-19, helping the Irish to the 2018 national championship. She was a top-10 recruit coming out of the state of Indiana and grew into a versatile, two-way force in South Bend. She earned ACC All-Freshman honors. Her 14.5 points per game in her junior season were a huge reason for the Irish’s run to the title. In her final season, Young was named Second-team All-ACC and got AP All-America recognition. It was her stellar play that eventually led her to becoming the No. 1 overall draft pick in the WNBA Draft by the Las Vegas Aces.
In the WNBA, Young has developed into one of the league’s best guards. She has been a big part of the Aces winning three championships and has earned multiple All-Star nods. In the current season, she is averaging 17.8 points and 6.8 assists while shooting 38% from behind the three-point line.
Now, she joins a star-studded lineup that includes Caitlin Clark (Indiana), A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas), Breanna Stewart, Aliyah Boston, Paige Bueckers (Dallas), Napheesa Collier (Minnesota), Kahleah Copper (Phoenix), Chelsea Gray (Las Vegas), Rhyne Howard (Atlanta), Kelsey Plum (Phoenix), Angel Reese (Atlanta), and Breanna Stewart (New York).
For Notre Dame fans, her Team USA selection is another point of pride. A reminder that at the highest levels of almost any area, Notre Dame continues to have a presence.
