Former Notre Dame kicker transfers to Big Ten foe Ohio State

It wasn’t a surprise when Notre Dame kicker Marcello Diomede entered the transfer portal, but where he landed surely was.

On Tuesday the Illinois native decided to transfer a bit further away from home, as he announced his commitment to Ohio State. The third-year player missed his only field goal attempt with the Irish, and didn’t even try one this past season.

Diomede made two-of-three extra points, so his loss wasn’t a big one for Notre Dame. You have to wonder how bad the special teams room is for the Buckeyes if they’re taking a player who virtually no experience, and what he does have isn’t as impressive as you’d expect.

Hopefully it’s the right move for Diomede, as he’ll get a much better opportunity to see the field. We wish him the best of luck, and if Notre Dame see’s him again, maybe a bit of nerves as well.
