Amid a stretch of brutal heat and humidity this week, the Evansville Rescue Mission says it needs the community to step up and donate bottled water.
“Right now, we’re down to our last few cases, and we need your help to make sure no one in our community goes without something as basic as a cold drink of water,” facility officials said in a social media post on Monday afternoon.
The Evansville Rescue Mission can take water donations at its facility at 500 E. Walnut St. in Evansville.
“If you’re able, please consider donating bottled water,” the post stated. “Every case helps us care for our neighbors experiencing homelessness and others seeking relief from the dangerous heat.”
An extreme heat warning is in effect for the region through Friday evening, as the National Weather Service warns of daily heat index readings reaching 113 degrees.
