Evansville bail bondsman accused of attempted rape and stalking

EVANSVILLE – Evansville police are accusing a local bail bondsman of attempted rape, promotion of sex trafficking and multiple other charges after he allegedly harassed a woman he helped bail out of jail, placed tracking devices on her car, and adopted an alias to trick her into meeting.

A Monday news release from EPD also claimed he recorded sexual encounters with other women at his home without their knowledge and entered people’s houses without authority. EPD says “numerous victims have been identified,” and more could still come forward.

Timothy C. Moyes, 42, faces preliminary counts of the charges mentioned above, as well as kidnapping, criminal confinement, burglary, stalking, sexual battery, voyeurism, failure of a bail agent to collect a full premium, residential entry, impersonation of a public servant, and battery resulting in bodily injury.

“Many of these charges have multiple counts each,” the release states.

EPD spokesman Sgt. Anthony Aussieker told the Courier & Press Moyes had been arrested and was still in the process of being booked into the Vanderburgh County jail as of Monday afternoon. His name has yet to show up in jail bookings or court records.

What police say about Timothy Moyes

According to the release, the investigation into Moyes launched on July 2 when officers were dispatched to the West Side Walmart for an alleged disorderly conduct.

“Multiple calls were received saying two bondsmen were trying to arrest a female. When officers arrived, the female (victim) stated she was afraid of Moyes and accused him of harassing her,” the release states. “The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.”

Six days later, during an interview at the jail, the woman said her run-ins with Moyes began after a prior arrest.

“While she was in jail, Moyes contacted her, telling her that her mugshot was ‘cute,'” the release states.

After another arrest, the woman contacted Moyes about bailing her out of jail. She told police their subsequent conversations were “regularly sexual in nature.”

“Moyes later bonded the victim out and brought her to his residence,” police say. “While there, Moyes and the victim engaged in sexual activity.”

The woman later tried to keep her distance from Moyes. Police say that’s when Moyes and at least one another associate put tracking devices on the woman’s car multiple times.

Soon, she reportedly started receiving phone calls from a man named “Jeremy.” He implored her to give Moyes another chance.

“‘Jeremy’ told the victim she would not have to pay back any of her bond premium if she gave Moyes a real ‘shot.’ It was later determined that ‘Jeremy’ did not exist,” authorities wrote. “(He) was made up by Moyes to deceive the victim. Moyes posed as ‘Jeremy’ by using a second phone to impersonate him.”

Moyes reportedly pretended to be “Jeremy” to set up a meeting with the woman on July 2: the same day police responded to the disorderly conduct call at Walmart.

Hidden camera and body cam footage

The release says investigators “discovered” more victims as the case wore on – due in part to a hidden camera Moyes allegedly kept in his home bedroom.

Police say he used it to record sex with women without their consent. One piece of footage allegedly shows him “help” a woman use unnamed narcotics. He then reportedly took nude pictures of her after she fell asleep.

Investigators also seized body camera footage from Moyes showing him entering multiple residences when no one appears to be home, the release states. At least once he went in without proper authority and searched around the home, claiming to be looking for guns or cash.

In other footage, police say he can be seen entering a home that didn’t belong to the person he was looking for. He eventually took that person, a woman, into custody on an outstanding warrant. But instead of taking her to jail, Moyes drove her to his home after promising to drop her off at rehab.

A bail bonds company containing Moyes’ address is listed on Nextdoor, but Indiana Secretary of State records don’t have any businesses listed under his name or address. Vanderburgh Circuit Court records, however, do list Moyes as the “interested party” in a bail bond issue from May.

EPD’s news release asks anyone who believes they could be a victim of Moyes to call the force’s domestic and sexual violence unit at 812-436-7949.
