There are many eyes on the midterm elections this year as President Donald Trump seeks to strengthen his party’s majority in the U.S. House.
Indiana was the only Republican state so far to formally reject his push for redistricting in 2026, meaning the state’s nine House districts are intact, and all are on the ballot this primary season. A few of them are already shaping up to be competitive: Six of Indiana’s incumbent representatives have primary challengers.
Hoosier candidates had until noon Feb. 6 to file for their party’s primary, which will take place on May 5. House members serve two-year terms.
Here are the candidates who have filed to run, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.
1st Congressional District
Where it is: Northwest Indiana, covering Lake, Porter and part of LaPorte counties.
Democrats:
Republicans: Jennifer-Ruth Green, Gov. Mike Braun’s former secretary of public safety who was fined for violating ethics rules and who ran for this seat unsuccessfully in 2022, dropped out the primary the week of the filing deadline, citing Indiana’s failure to take up redistricting. The remaining candidates include:
2nd Congressional District
Where it is: Northern Indiana, from Elkhart down to Miami County.

3rd Congressional District
Where it is: Northeast Indiana, from Steuben Couny down to Jay County

4th Congressional District
Where it is: Western Indiana, from Jasper County down to Morgan County.

5th Congressional District
Where it is: Central Indiana north of Marion County, from Hamilton to Grant counties.

6th Congressional District
Where it is: Central and eastern Indiana, from Johnson to Wayne counties, including the southern portion of Marion County.

Where it is: Marion County

8th Congressional District
Where it is: Southwest Indiana, from Fountain County to the border.
Democrats:

9th Congressional District
Where it is: Southeast Indiana, from Monroe County to the border.
