Daniel Jones shares initial impression of Colts' late Day 3 draft pick

Quarterback Daniel Jones shared his early impressions of one of the Indianapolis Colts’ rookies.

Among the training camp competitions taking place this summer is at running back, specifically for the backup role behind Jonathan Taylor. Competing for those snaps are Seth McGowan and DJ Giddens.

Following Tuesday’s practice, Jones shared what he’s seen from McGowan in the early going.

“I think he’s done a good job,” Jones said. “He’s, you can tell, a strong, physical runner and not afraid to get his pads down and run through the line. So he’s done a good job. He runs hard and I’m excited to see him play when we get to live action.”

McGowan averaged 3.22 yards after contact in college, highlighting his ability to stay on his feet, make defenders miss, and pick up extra yards. In 2025, he ranked 42nd among running backs, generating 35 missed tackles.

Jonathan Taylor recently compared McGowan to current Texans running back David Montgomery.

Along with making plays with the ball in their hands, a key aspect to determining the backup running back will be McGowan and Giddens’ ability to impact the passing game, especially in pass protection.

“He definitely seems to have the physical, strong running style,” Jones added.
