Colts waived-injured promising cornerback, make new addition

The Indianapolis Colts announced a pair of roster moves at the cornerback position prior to Monday’s training camp practice.

The team signed Mekhi Rodgers and waived-injured Cameron Mitchell. If Mitchell clears waivers, he’ll revert back to the Colts’ injured reserve list.

Rodgers went undrafted this past April out of James Madison. There, he played 136 defensive snaps across 11 games during the 2025 season, allowing six receptions on 16 targets at 11.7 yards per catch. Rodgers didn’t log any ball production and was penalized twice.

He brings good size to the Colts’ cornerback room, listed at 6-2 and weighing 204 pounds. Rodgers also has special teams experience, playing 146 snaps last season, contributing regularly to four of the six different phases.

Mitchell did not practice on Saturday, and “appeared to suffer a shoulder injury” on Friday, according to the Indy Star’s Joel Erickson.

In a crowded cornerback room, Mitchell brought upside to that unit and performed well when called upon last season. He allowed just nine completions on 18 targets, surrendering only 5.8 yards per catch. Mitchell also forced four pass breakups, according to PFF. Among all cornerbacks, he ranked 21st in forced incompletion rate.
