Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Anthony Richardson was on the practice field on Saturday just two days after he exited the team’s preseason opener against Baltimore with a dislocated finger.
The Colts’ focus for the day was in the red zone, where Richardson struggled to complete passes, going just 1-for-6 during the 11-on-11 periods, according to Jake Arthur of Horseshoe Huddle.
Overall, Richardson’s finger didn’t seem to bother him. Nate Atkins of the Indy Star posted that Richardson’s velocity “seemed to be there.”
Colts’ quarterback coach Cam Turner also didn’t think that Richardson’s injury was holding him back.
“I don’t think it’s a big deal,” quarterbacks coach Cam Turner said, via ESPN. “He looked like he was gripping it normal, [but] anytime you put something on your throwing hand, it’s a little different, uncomfortable. But it didn’t look any different to me.”
On the play that injured Richardson, a free Ravens’ blitzer came flying in off the right side. Richardson, however, was looking left the entire way.
“We’ve gone over it,” Turner said Saturday, via The Athletic. “He’s (executed it) before. It’s not something that he’s never hit in his life. But every play is a learning (opportunity), whether it’s Year 2, Year 3 (or) whether it’s Year 8. … No matter if it’s a base install play, you have rules you have to follow, and you have responsibilities. I think that’s a good reminder.”
Richardson was supposed to play a quarter and a half against Baltimore, but after exiting early, Daniel Jones ended up seeing 31 snaps. We will see if Richardson again gets the start this coming week against Green Bay to help ensure that snaps are equal between the two quarterbacks.
