The Indianapolis Colts are getting a salary cap bump for the 2026 NFL season. However, it is among the smallest cap adjustments in football.
The NFL announced the 2026 salary cap adjustments for each team, and the Colts are receiving a $600,000 cap space gain, according to Spotrac.
The team getting the biggest adjustment is the Tennessee Titans, who received $24.3 million. The 49ers received $20.7 million. There are four teams, Buffalo, Seattle, the New York Giants, and Carolina, who lost cap space following the adjustment.
The Colts are receiving the sixth-lowest cap adjustment of any team.
So what do teams receive these adjustments for? Kyle Crabbs of AtoZ Sports explains.
“These kinds of adjustments are usually courtesy of teams getting reimbursed for player salary via insurance policies after an injury or incentive money from the previous season that is (or isn’t) achieved as compared to what the salary cap records showed throughout the prior season,” Crabbs wrote.
How much 2026 salary cap space do the Colts have?
Crabbs also notes that most salary cap sites project these reimbursements, so don’t expect to see the Colts’ salary cap to make that slight jump.
Over the Cap has the Colts currently with $42.14 million in salary cap space. However, the Alec Pierce and Daniel Jones contracts are not yet accounted for, so the Colts do not have that much cap space available, but they are in good shape.
Given the space that was created through trading Michael Pittman and various contract restructures, it felt like a big outside addition was coming, but that never materialized. At this stage of free agency, in terms of finding high-impact additions, options are running low.
Even with the additions made, the Colts still have several roster holes to address.
