Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark picked up her eighth technical foul of the 2026 WNBA season on Saturday afternoon against the Chicago Sky, sparking a one-game suspension.
The technical came after she was bumped out of bounds while passing on the baseline and ran into the referee. She looked at the ref, then turned away, and was given a technical at that time.
Fever coach Stephanie White was irate at the call, getting a technical herself. Chicago Sky guard Rachel Banham made each technical free throw.
Clark will miss the Fever’s game on Tuesday against the New York Liberty unless the Fever successfully appeal the technical. If the technical stands, she will be the first player to be suspended after missing the technical foul limit. Indiana has appealed at least two of Clark’s technicals this season, both unsuccessful.
Asked about the potential suspension postgame by ABC’s Holly Rowe, Clark said: “She said I ran into her, I’ve already watched it on tape. We’ll let the league decide, but it wasn’t intentional or anything, so I’m hoping it’s getting rescinded, Holly. I’ll see you on Tuesday.”
The Fever host the New York Liberty on ESPN on Tuesday.

What Caitlin Clark said about technical fouls
After picking up her seventh technical of the season just before the All-Star break, Clark said she wouldn’t change her fiery on-court demeanor.
“That intensity and that fire is what makes me, me,” Clark said. “But also knowing my team needs me and finding a good balance of that. But I don’t think I’m going to be playing with that in the back of my head, I think that might hinder my play a little bit. I think just continue to be myself and then just try to refocus, to focus on my teammates and how I can help them.”
