We all know former Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is unemployed after getting fired by LSU in the middle of this past season.
He wasn’t hired during this past cycle. He recently stated he would be open to returning to the sidelines if the right opportunity presented itself. It was a big surprise when Kelly opted to leave South Bend, and during a recent conversation with Dusty Dvoracek and Danny Kanell, he opened up on his decision to leave for the Tigers.
“We had just finished building our dream home. … We tore down an apartment complex to build a beautiful home. We had no intentions of leaving Notre Dame,” which seems like hyperbole at this point. Kelly clearly left because he wanted a “better situation” and saw that with LSU.
It obviously wasn’t the case, and he continued to dig a deeper hole.
“We got the program back to where it needed to be. Our deal coming in was we needed to get this program back to being an elite program.”
Kelly then dismissed winning a title as bringing Notre Dame back, as all he wanted to do was be a “consistent force in college football.”
Ask any Notre Dame fan and they’ll tell you that’s not what they want. A return to winning titles is what South Bend carves. As he has done many times in the past, Kelly once again missed the point and made himself look bad in doing so. This will not be the last time, either, but it’s great to see him fuming about a missed opportunity and moving away from his “dream home.”
