Breaking down Indianapolis Colts' 2025 schedule: Toughest stretch, must win game and more

The Indianapolis Colts’ full 2025 schedule has been released, so let’s break it all down.

On paper, according to Sharp Football, the Colts have the 12th-easiest schedule in the NFL this season. However, beyond who the opponents are, there are other factors in play when it comes to the schedule that can impact a team’s final record and playoff chances.

Colts’ most intriguing game: at Jacksonville

The Jaguars have reshaped their front office, coaching staff, and roster this offseason, which on its own, could be enough to make the Colts’ matchup with them intriguing, given the unknown around all that new. However, the main reason this game is put in the ‘intriguing’ category is because of the Colts’ long losing streak in Jacksonville that extends all the way back to 2015. Is this the year the Colts finally win in Duval?

Colts’ most difficult stretch: Weeks 12-16

The good news is that the Colts have their bye week prior to this five game stretch, but it’s filled with some difficult matchups. Included are games on the road against the Chiefs, Jaguars, and Seahawks, along with at home matchups versus the Texans and 49ers.

The Chiefs and Texans were playoff teams from a year ago. We all know how difficult it has been for the Colts to win at Jacksonville, and Seattle was a 10-win team last season, not to mention that it is a difficult place to play and a cross-country trip for Indianapolis. The Niners may have missed the playoffs last year, but that’s certainly not a team you count out either.

Part of the schedule the Colts must take advantage of: Weeks 5-10

There could be an opportunity here for the Colts to bank some wins heading into their bye week. Of those six games, the Chargers and Steelers are the only teams that made the playoffs last season, but Pittsburgh has its quarterback unknowns at the moment.

The Titans and Raiders were both picking in the top six of this past April’s draft, while the Cardinals went 8-9 in 2024, but have to travel to Indianapolis.

Don’t overlook: A favorable home schedule to start the season

In the Colts’ first six games of the season, four of them will be played Lucas Oil Stadium. This includes two separate back-to-back home games in Weeks 1 and 2 and then again in Weeks 5 and 6. Perhaps playing in the friendly confines can help the Colts get off to a fast start. They also face just two playoff teams from last season in those first six games as well.

Must-win game: at home vs. Houston

Until we see otherwise, Houston is the defending AFC South champion and it’s who the Colts, Jaguars, and Titans are all chasing. Winning on the road is always difficult, so the Colts need to win when at home against Houston. Last season, the Colts lost to Houston at home in Week 1 and then on the road to the Texans in Week 8, putting Indianapolis in a pretty big hole, despite having the second half of the season ahead of them. A loss again at home to the Texans could swing the pendulum heavily in an unfavorable direction for the Colts when it comes to the AFC South race.
