MUNCIE, IN — Five people were shot in what Muncie police are investigating as three separate incidents on the evening of Friday, Sept. 5, and the early morning of Saturday, Sept. 6.
According to Melissa Criswell, deputy chief of the Muncie Police Department, the first shootings were reported to 911 dispatchers at 8:36 p.m. in the 3200 block of South Walnut Street.
City police and emergency medical personnel from the Muncie Fire Department found two men suffering from what were believed to be gunshot wounds at an apartment complex. Criswell said one of the men, 27 years old, was in critical condition after being taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, while the other man, 24 years old, was listed in stable condition.
At 11: 59 p.m., dispatchers received a report of a shooting in the parking lot of a convenience store at Madison and Willard streets.
Two gunshot victims, both men, were also found at that location. The deputy chief said those victims — ages 30 and 44 — were both listed in stable condition.
At 1:01 a.m. on Saturday, the shooting of a 52-year-old male was reported in the 1300 block of South Monroe Street. He was also in stable condition at the Muncie hospital.
“Further details will be released at a later time as each investigation continues,” Criswell said in a news release. “Each case is being investigated as a separate incident.”
“Multiple surrounding agencies” assisted Muncie police in the wake of the shootings.
Anyone with information on any of the shootings is asked to call the Muncie Police Department’s detective division at 765-747-4867 or MPD dispatchers at 765-747-4838.
