Shutdown continues as Senate vote fails again. How did Illinois lawmakers vote?

The Senate failed yet another vote today, dragging on what has now become the second-longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

The vote to fund the government failed 54-45, short of the 60 votes needed, as Republicans and Democrats continue to butt heads on funding legislation. Meanwhile, millions of Americans risk losing their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits come November as a result of the shutdown.

Here’s how Illinois’ representatives voted.

How did Dick Durbin vote on funding extension?

Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin voted against the House-backed measure to fund the federal government, according to the U.S. Senate website.

How did Tammy Duckworth vote on funding extension?

Democratic Sen. Tammy Duckworth also voted against the measure.

Did any Republicans vote against funding extension? Did any Democrats vote for it?

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was the only Republican to vote against the measure.

Meanwhile, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) and Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) joined Republicans in voting for the funding extension.

Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV) refrained from voting.

When is the next Senate vote?

The date of the next Senate vote is not known yet, as the Senate schedule for tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, has not yet been released. When or if a 14th vote will take place remains unclear.
