Peoria Notre Dame swimmer wins pair of medals at IHSA state finals

WESTMONT — Add Kamryn Gardiner’s name to the elite group of Peoria Notre Dame swimmers.

The freshman swam to a pair of third-place finishes on the final day of the Illinois High School Association girls swimming and diving state meet Saturday at FMC Natatorium.

Gardiner becomes PND’s first state medalist since 2018 (Ashton Amerman, 10th in 500-yard freestyle) and highest placer in 11 years (Rachael Kelch, third in the 2014 100-yard butterfly).

Gardiner’s time of 2:03.33 gave her bronze in the 200-yard IM. She then clocked the 100-yard butterfly in 54.56 seconds.

LaSalle-Peru junior Samantha Nauman finish 10th in the 200-yard IM (2:03.96). She also took fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 55.38 seconds.

In the diving finals, Washington senior Ava Ray was 14th (435.30), while Dunlap senior Annie Yingling (409.10) took 16th.
