McClugage Bridge work will delay traffic at Peoria intersection. Here's what to know

The intersection of Adams Street and War Memorial Drive will be periodically closed June 2 through June 6 for the removal of steel beams from the old McClugage Bridge span.

Closures will take place between 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m., according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The direction of traffic that is stopped so steel beams can removed will “vary,” IDOT said.

Removal of the beams is only expected to delay traffic for about 20 minutes per beam. Motorists should expect delays.

“To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered,” IDOT said in a news release. “Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.”
