First Fridays on Seminary Street
What: Historic Seminary Street transforms into a vibrant, open-air celebration filled with music, food, shopping and community fun at this event. Stroll the brick streets, connect with friends and soak in the energy of one of Galesburg’s favorite summer traditions. Bring a lawnchair; seating is limited.

Art Exhibit Openings
What: “Seasons,” an exhibition of work by Paulette Thenhaus, will be in the Joanne R. Goudie Permanent Collection Gallery (3rd Floor) during regular hours from Aug. 7 through Sept. 26. See “Roots & Reverie,” the work of emerging artist Sue Cherrington in the 2nd floor R.A.I.L. Gallery from Aug. 7 through Aug. 29. Suzan Cherrington is a self-taught artist primarily painting in acrylics, but she loves the challenge of exploring multiple surface types including canvas, panels, wood, foam boards and glass.

Second Saturdays: Nature Art
What: This month’s theme: Art in Nature Class is held outdoors, with a nature walk through the woods, so dress for the weather. This event is for all ages.

NAACP Back to School Cookout

Master Class: Kitchen Lithography
What: This summer, the Arts Center is hosting a series of demonstrations or masterclasses, in which participants can watch local artists’ processes and techniques in real time. Observe, ask questions, get inspired and apply what you’ve learned independently. This is a special opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look — no hands-on participation necessary. On Aug. 8, discover the magic of kitchen lithography as Tina Browder demonstrates how everyday materials, like aluminum foil and cola, can be used to create stunning lithographic prints.

Little Sprouts

K-Pop Demon Hunters Pool Party

Central Illinois Dueling Pianos
What: Laugh along, clap along and sing along as The Orpheum Theatre presents Central Illinois Dueling Pianos as part of the Summer Comedy Series. Central Illinois Dueling Pianos, based in Peoria, features two piano players as they race to lead comedic variations of songs requested by the audience. This audience-controlled show is never the same twice. Expect to hear music hits from oldies, to classics, or even recent pop songs.
When: 7:30-9 p.m. Aug. 8

CommunityGro Summer Social
What: This first fundraiser for CommunityGro features a cardboard boat race, sidewalk chalk competition, grower’s market and food trucks. Registration is only required if you are participating in the cardboard boat race or sidewalk chalk competition. Proceeds from this event will help CommunityGro support neighborhood gardens and orchards, provide free gardening and cooking workshops, sharing tools and resources with the community and expand access to free fresh food throughout Galesburg.

Book Club for Adults
What: Meet to discuss The Faculty Lounge by Jennifer Mathieu. The Tuesday/Thursday book club (TnT) meets twice a month to discuss the same book (you do not need to attend both meetings). Members mostly read fiction, but sometimes nonfiction, too. Books for each discussion can be checked out at the library about one month in advance.

Throwback Thursday: 1776
What: See the PG-rated film, “1776,” a 1972 historical musical drama directed by Peter H. Hunt. It vividly depicts the Second Continental Congress as they struggle through a sweltering Philadelphia summer to draft and sign the Declaration of Independence.

Craft Night Out: Monogram Letter
What: Create a monogram letter with sticks. This personalized letter will be mounted on a canvas board for you to display. All supplies and crafting tools will be provided. If you want more bling, you can bring your own embellishments to personalize it. This workshop is recommended for ages 12 and older because of the use of clippers and hot glue guns; children must have adult assistance.
