Former EMT worker pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Moore case

SPRINGFIELD — A former emergency medical technician charge with first-degree murder that caused national headlines pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Sangamon County court April 24.

Peter J. Cadigan made the partially negotiated plea before Seventh Circuit Court Judge Robin Schmidt.

Cadigan and one-time co-defendant, Peggy Jo Finley, had been charged with the first-degree murder in of Earl L. Moore Jr. in 2022.

Cadigan and Finley were no longer co-defendants. Cadigan was set to go to trial May 11.

He will now be sentenced June 23. Cadigan faces two to five years in prison at 50%, but he probation eligible.
