The East Peoria City Council voted to adopt the city’s 2045 Comprehensive Plan during Tuesday’s meeting.
The comprehensive plan provides long-range guidance for a community’s future. It outlines goals for growth, development, and preservation; and covers land use, housing, economic development, transportation and natural resources.
“The Comprehensive Plan is designed to be a guide for future development, zoning, and infrastructure extension or reinvestment,” said Ty Livingston, the city’s director of planning and development. “This is not a static document, as it will be referred to often, as well as amended and updated, as needed, to address future challenges as they arise.”
Livingston added that city staff, zoning board and a steering committee have been collaborating with stakeholders and residents over the past two years to develop the plan.
“While there’s quite a bit of information here to take in, it’s reflective of our community and the direction its residents want to see it take,” he said. “Throughout the process, frequent and regular community engagement was integral to the effort.”
The plan includes several goals for the coming year, according to Livingston, including:
“Some of the things included are action items we’ve actually been working on while we were undergoing this process,” said Mayor John Kahl. “So, we’ll see some fruits of our labor fairly quickly.”
The city will lay the ordinance on the table for public inspection for no less than one week. Upon its adoption, the plan will be posted on the city’s website.
