PEORIA – Rhythm Kitchen Music Cafe is prepared to “rise like a phoenix” following an accidental grill fire on Friday afternoon.
“We are ready to welcome y’all back!” the restaurant wrote in a March 23 announcement.
Rhythm Kitchen will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Live jazz will be hosted from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night and a DJ will make an appearance on Wednesday.
The eatery described the fire as “minor” following the incident and said it planned to reopen quickly.
The Peoria Fire Department responded to the restaurant at around 4:08 p.m. on Friday, March 20, and found a grill fire had been kept in check by the business’ sprinkler system and employees, who “successfully extinguished the remaining fire with a fire extinguisher prior to our arrival.” Responding fire companies turned off the unit’s electric and gas. Crews also shut off the sprinkler system and remained on site for around an hour to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
No injuries were reported, and no other businesses within the building had to temporarily close.
Damages were estimated to be around $10,000 – with the establishment encountering smoke and water damage. Even so, the Peoria Fire Department noted:
“The sprinkler system, the owner, and the fire crews quick action prevented the fire from extending beyond the kitchen area.”
