Boil order issued for Freeport's low zone after hydrant replacement

Water service will be temporarily disrupted for many Freeport residents on July 7 as crews replace a hydrant near the Carroll Water Tower.

Once service is restored, the entire low zone of the city will be under a boil order. Residents may experience discolored water and fluctuations in water pressure.

The water disruption will affect residents on Carroll Avenue from Fuller to South streets, Wayne Street from Chicago Avenue to Carroll Avenue, and East Roosevelt Street from Chicago Avenue to Carroll Avenue, according to a community announcement.

Residents in the city’s low zone are being asked to to flush their lines by letting faucets run and to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes and making ice for at least five minutes before use, according to the announcement.

Boil order could last up to 2 days

The boil order is expected to last 24 to 48 hours after water service is restored, according to the announcement.

While residents may notice some temporary water discoloration in other parts of the city due to changes in water flow, widespread service interruptions or additional boil orders are not anticipated unless a major water main break occurs during the repair, according to the announcement.
