The Chicago Bears will open the 2026 preseason against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday at Soldier Field, but don’t expect to see many starters.
Head coach Ben Johnson announced that the team will sit a number of starters, on offense and defense, for the preseason game against the Browns. Among those players is quarterback Caleb Williams, who Johnson confirmed won’t see the field on Saturday and potentially for other preseason contests.
“Do I need to see Caleb Williams in the preseason? No, I do not. I see him every single day in practice,” Johnson said, noting that Williams will be ready for Week 1 based on what he’s seen during practice this summer.
Johnson confirmed that backup quarterback Tyson Bagent will get the start on Saturday with the plan to play him for the first half before Case Keenum and Miller Moss see action in the second half.
The Bears have battled numerous injuries through the first two weeks of training camp, including to safety Coby Bryant, wide receiver Luther Burden III, defensive end Montez Sweat, left tackle Braxton Jones and safety Cam Lewis, among others. So health is crucial at this point of the offseason with the regular season just around the corner.
