Will USPS deliver mail on President's Day? You've got options

On Monday, Feb. 16, Floridians will commemorate the birthday of a great American leader, George Washington. But don’t expect to get mail about it, or anything else.

Washington’s Birthday, known in many states as President’s Day to also celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s birthday or all presidents, is a federal holiday. Federal services, such as the U.S. Post Office, will be closed, as will most Florida schools, banks, U.S. stock markets, and some businesses.

State government services will also be closed. This year, Gov. Ron DeSantis added George Washington’s birthday to the Florida state calendar for 2026 as part of America’s sesquicentennial.

So, can you get something in the mail Monday? What about UPS and FedEx?

Here’s what to know.

When is President’s Day?

President’s Day is commemorated on the third Monday in February every year. In 2026, that’s Monday, Feb. 16.

Washington’s actual birthday was Feb. 22, 1732. The holiday was moved as of 1971 to give federal employees a three-day weekend. Later, some states that had been celebrating Lincoln’s birthday (Feb. 12) combined the two into Presidents’ Day.

Will there be mail delivery on President’s Day?

No.

“The U.S. Postal Service is reminding customers in Florida that Post Office locations will be closed, and regular mail delivery will not occur on Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 16, 2026,” the USPS said in a Feb. 10 release.

Are any postal services open on Washington’s Birthday?

Yes. Quite a lot of your mailing tasks can be done with the local post office closed.

“Even on a federal holiday, customers have options to plan ahead and stay connected,” said Corey Richards, District Manager in the release. “The Postal Service has continued to improve the tools and features people use most, and we encourage customers to take advantage of those convenient resources — especially if they’re planning to mail First-Class letters or important documents.”

Does UPS delivery on Presidents’ Day?

UPS services will be available and UPS offices will be open Monday, according to the company’s holidays schedule. However, services that use the USPS for a portion of the process such as UPS Ground Saver and UPS Mail Innovations will be delayed a day.

Does FedEx deliver on Presidents’ Day?

FedEx will also be delivering on Monday and offices will be open, but early on-call pickups and drop box pickups may be affected or unavailable in some areas, the company website said.
