Entering the 2026 NFL season, where do GM James Gladstone and the Jacksonville Jaguars rank in salary cap spending on the defensive side of the ball compared to the rest of the league?
The Jaguars made another big cap commitment this offseason on defense, signing Travon Walker to an extension. Although the cap ramifications of that deal in Year 1 aren’t breaking the bank, with Walker’s cap hit coming in at under $10 million.
According to Over the Cap, the Jaguars have $136.667 million in cap space invested on defense. This ranks right in the middle, with the Jaguars coming in at 16th overall.
Leading the way in defensive spending are the Pittsburgh Steelers at $194.565 million.
Jaguars’ five largest salary cap hits on defense in 2026
Of the 10 largest salary cap hits on the team, six of those players are on defense.
Relative to the rest of their salary cap, the Jaguars have devoted more high-end cap resources to the defense. That said, in comparison to the rest of the NFL, Jacksonville’s spending on defense is in the middle. That, in part, is a product of the Jaguars pairing a number of relatively low-cap-commitment contracts with the big ones that are on the books.
