The TrumpRX prescription drug website is up and running.
The government website launched Feb. 5 and is aimed at helping Americans buy medicines at lower prices.
“This is a very big deal,” President Trump said. “People are going to save a lot of money and be healthy.”
The site launched with more than 40 medications at discounted prices after negotiations with more than a dozen drug companies.
Here’s what to know.
What is TrumpRx?
TrumpRx is a federal website intended to help Americans, especially the uninsured or those with high-deductible plans, find lower prices on some brand-name prescription drugs.
Medications on the website include those which drug manufacturers have agreed to Most Favored Nation pricing, meaning lower prices for American consumers.
“Americans can use TrumpRx to purchase drugs in cash (outside of their insurance). These drugs can be obtained at participating pharmacies using coupon cards displayed on TrumpRx or directly through manufacturers’ websites.”
How does TrumpRx work?
TrumpRx is not a pharmacy. It displays discounted drug prices but does not sell or dispense the medications.
Users go to TrumpRx and enter the name of their medication.
If found, users can see the original price of their medication and compare to the TrumpRx price.
They’ll then need to:
After agreeing to the terms, you’ll be able to access a coupon to use at participating pharmacies or be directed to the manufacturer’s website.
TrumpRx functions as a lookup tool, not a pharmacy, directing users to manufacturer-discounted sites or providing coupons for use at participating pharmacies.
Where do I get my TrumpRx medication?
Some drugs are available through coupon offers displayed on TrumpRx.
“These coupon programs can be used at local pharmacies on a nationwide basis, with the exception of certain specialty drugs. Your doctor should send prescriptions to the pharmacy of your choice where the discounted pricing is available.”
“Other drugs are only available at discounted prices through the manufacturer’s website.”
How much can I save using TrumpRx?
That depends on your medication.
An example of savings available on medications on the site now include:
You still need doctor’s prescription
Speak with your doctor to see if a drug is right for you and then receive a valid prescription for a pharmacy to dispense the drug to you, the website said.
I have insurance. Can I still use TrumpRx?
No, you cannot use your insurance to get medications listed on TrumpRx.
“At this time, TrumpRx discounted pricing is only available for cash-paying patients.”
What’s the difference between TrumpRx and GoodRx?
Both offer discounted prescription drug prices, but TrumpRx is a government-backed website for a smaller group of brand-name drugs.
GoodRx is a private platform which provides coupons for thousands of both generic and brand-name drugs.
An AI summary between the two said:
“GoodRx offers a more comprehensive discount tool, while TrumpRx provides a streamlined, manufacturer-backed option for specific high-cost medications, relying heavily on GoodRx’s infrastructure for some of its offerings.
What medications are available at TrumpRx?
As of Feb. 9, there were 43 medications available at TrumpRx, with the website saying “many more are coming soon.”
Available now are:
It’s ‘unacceptable.’ US citizens charged more for drugs
“America was being overcharged for medicine,” TrumpRx said on the website.
“The same drugs, made in the same factories, at the same dosages, are costing Americans up to 1000% more than in any other country. This is unacceptable.”
