Nearly 3 inches of rain fell around Vero Beach the afternoon of July 30, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, with intermittent downpours and gusts.
A flood advisory was issued for parts of Indian River County until 4:30 p.m. with up to 1 to 2 inches of additional rain expected over the area, according to a 2:31 p.m. weather service social media post.
The Stuart area had a trace of rain and Fort Pierce had up to 1 inch in some areas.
Indian River County sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Jaworski said deputies didn’t receive any calls about flooding in the county. Vero Beach Police and Indian River County Fire Rescue did not immediately return messages regarding what, if any, weather-related incidents their respective agencies handled.
Representatives of law enforcement agencies in Stuart, Port St. Lucie and St. Lucie County, reported no significant rain or weather-related incidents.
The rain is expected to be on and off all weekend along the Treasure Coast because of multiple storms following each other with small breaks in between, according to Melissa Watson, a meteorologist with the weather service.
Scattered showers are expected in the mornings of July 31 through Aug. 2, and chances of lightning will increase in the afternoons. Indian River County residents received two lightning alerts July 30 before 3 p.m. from the county’s emergency management team, urging them to take cover.
Two days earlier, the Chick-fil-A eatery on State Road 60 west of Vero Beach reported being hit by lightning.
The Treasure Coast has received more rain to date in 2026 than it did last year over the same period, according to weather service meteorologist Derrick Weitlich.
Fort Pierce received 16.03 inches more rain from January through July 30 this year than over the same period last year; and Vero Beach got 13.81 inches more than last year through July 30, according to Weitlich. A year-to-date number was not immediately available for Stuart.
