Another headline now suits the Niceville sophomore: Florida Power & Light Athlete of the Week. After delivering the game-winning goal versus Nease in the Sweet 16 and dishing out an assist in Niceville’s 3-0 region championship over Bartram Trail, Diehl joins classmates Abbey Kuritz, Camrin Pearson, Teray Geiger and Jakobe Gilyard, FWB’s Brian Velazquez, Sawyer Downs and Diandre Mayes, South Walton’s AK Wickman, Connor Rooney and Maci Jones, Paxton’s Borgesen, Cade Stewart and Kenzie Lassiter, Choctaw’s Camry Johnson, Carter Marracco, Tamen Zabetakis and Jordan Figueroa, Navarre’s Maleeya Brammer, Walton’s Kaden Fuentes and Whitton West, Baker’s Wyatt Straight, Crestview’s Manwell Robinson and Trey Hardman, Freeport’s Emily Doi as NWF Daily News AOTW winners.

The Niceville girls soccer team (18-1-1) next faces Lakewood Ranch in Monday’s 6A Final 4 at 1 p.m. (EST) at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand.

Athlete of the Week Nominees

Xy Childres, FWB: The senior delivered a team-best 18 points (5-of-9 FG, 3-for-4 3-pointers) in the Vikings’ 66-63 win over Rickards to advance to the the Region 1-4A semifinal round at Godby.

Juanma Cotes, FWB: The senior delivered the game-winner in Fort Walton Beach’s 4-1 win over Vanguard to advance the Vikings to the Region 1-4A championship against Wakulla.

Delaney Diehl, Niceville: The sophomore delivered the game-winner in the Eagles’ 2-0 win over Nease to advance the Eagles to the Region 1-6A title game versus Bartram Trail.

Caeden Stephens, Niceville: Stephens allowed just one hit over three innings with four strikeouts in a 7-4 win over Choctaw, and at the dish he delivered a home run in a 7-2 victory over Marianna.
