The same can’t be said for a group of Pagan Motorcycle Club members who were stopped Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18, by Volusia County sheriff’s deputies on the International Speedway Boulevard bridge.

“A group of 25-30 Pagans were stopped for multiple traffic violations, and 4 of them got their bikes towed,” Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood said in a Facebook post.

The bridge was partially cordoned off to allow for the enforcement action, which took place sometime around 2 p.m.

The event was streamed on Facebook by a driver headed the other way. Eric Torres described the action as a “raid.”

Two official vehicles blocked the bikes from exiting the bridge. Two additional law enforcement vehicles blocked the back of the line. Traffic was backed up on one side of the bridge with motorcycles parked two-by-two along the inside median.

Traffic violations included blocking intersections, according to a deputy on scene, who also said four bikes were towed because their riders weren’t properly licensed.

Records show four men were arrested by deputies around the time of the bridge checks for not having a motorcycle endorsement on their licenses. One was also charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. They were all booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail and bonded out the same day.

By late afternoon, the bridge was mostly clear with a few sheriff’s vehicles and the tow truck still on scene.

The 33rd annual Biketoberfest began on Oct. 16 and was set to close Sunday. The event was created by the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau to boost tourism during the off-season. The annual gathering usually draws an estimated 100,000 bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts to the area.

Police were on high alert throughout the event, the first motorcycle gathering since a brawl and shootout between two biker gangs occurred during Bike Week in March.
