College football’s second transfer portal window officially opens Wednesday, igniting another expected rampant period of player movement.
With the House settlement still in the process of being finalized, and then to be implemented for the 2025-26 school year, this could be the last chance for players to maximize their value before third-party NIL deals worth more than $600 must be reported and “fair-market value” for legitimate business purposes to avoid counting against the proposed $20.5 million revenue sharing cap.
Big-spending Texas Tech already made waves in the Big 12 with the spring acquisition of Stanford edge rusher David Bailey, and Tennessee starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava — as first reported by On3 Sports — left the program after seeking to renegotiate his NIL compensation.
UCF’s players will have had the better part of four months to get to know head coach Scott Frost and his staff and figure out what their roles come the fall could be. Similarly, Frost will assess what the Knights still need on their roster in order to compete within a deep, competitive Big 12 Conference.
