Transfer from SEC school could have big impact for FSU in 2025

FSU added multiple wide receivers through the transfer portal. One of them is coming off an injury-plagued 2024 campaign and that’s Squirrel White, who spent three seasons with the Tennessee Volunteers.

He dealt with shoulder and knee issues and saw his production dip from 803 yards in 2023 to 381 yards a season ago. However, he’s healthy after a great rehabilitation process during the spring.

“Amazing. He’s fast. He’s really fast,” FSU quarterback Thomas Castellanos told Noles247 about White. “Getting back with him in the summer, we’ve been working a lot on timing and being able to trust —knowing when he’s coming out of his break, things like that.

“He’s been full throttle this summer and looks great, moving really well. I’m just excited for you guys to see him.”

That’s the key reason to get excited about White. His speed will be his biggest asset as a field stretcher who can take the top off a defense. Freshman Jayvan Boggs is likely going to snag the slot role, so White and USC transfer Duce Robinson will hold down the other two.

The 2-WR role for FSU plays off the ball and will also be used on jet motions under offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. So, he at times will he an extension of the run game with his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands.

What this will do is free up Robinson on the outside while also giving a player like Boggs or any of the other slot options that may earn some playing time the opportunity to feast in the middle of the field. Also, it will help the tight end room in the same area so guys like probable starter Randy Pittman and possibly freshman Chase Loftin or Markeston Douglas can make some plays.

All of this can be made possible because of the threat White represents. With Malzahn at the helm and his reputation for putting productive offenses on the field, White will have every opportunity to be impactful.
