Top Sarasota area events celebrating Fourth of July, America's 250th

It’s nearly the Fourth of July, and if you haven’t made plans yet for how you’re going to celebrate the holiday, fear not. There will be plenty of Sarasota area events to choose from — more than usual, even, as this year’s holiday is a particularly significant one.

This year marks America’s 250th anniversary, or semiquincentennial, since the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776.

Many of this year’s Fourth of July events will also celebrate America’s 250th birthday, such as a new Spirit of ’76 event being held in downtown Sarasota’s Five Points Park on Friday. Then on Saturday, Venice will hold a parade and picnic celebrating Fourth of July, America’s semiquincentennial and its own centennial, with Venice incorporated as a town 100 years ago.

There will still be the typical Fourth of July celebrations as well, including fireworks displays in downtown Sarasota, on Siesta Beach and elsewhere. Here’s our updated list of the top events celebrating Fourth of July and America’s 250th birthday in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties, listed in chronological order.
